Walk-ins welcome
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses a concentrated dose of your own platelets and growth factors to support your body's natural healing response in injured joints, tendons, and muscles.
What Is Platelet-Rich Plasma?
Platelets are the cells in your blood that start the healing process after an injury. A PRP treatment begins with a simple blood draw in our office. Your blood is then spun in a centrifuge to separate and concentrate the platelets, and that concentrated plasma is injected precisely into the injured area.
Because PRP is made from your own blood, there is nothing synthetic in the injection itself, and the risk of an allergic reaction is very low.
What PRP May Help With
PRP is most commonly used for orthopedic problems such as knee osteoarthritis, tendon injuries like tennis elbow and Achilles tendinopathy, shoulder pain, and chronic muscle strains that have not improved with rest and conservative care.
What to Expect at Your Visit
Before your appointment
Most patients are asked to avoid anti-inflammatory medicines such as ibuprofen for several days before treatment, since they can blunt the platelet response. We will review your medications and give you specific instructions when you book.
During the injection
The full visit usually takes under an hour: a blood draw, a short wait while the plasma is prepared, and the injection itself. Most patients describe pressure or brief soreness rather than sharp pain.
Aftercare and recovery
Mild soreness or swelling at the injection site for a few days is normal and expected. We will give you a written aftercare plan, including when to ease back into activity and which medicines to avoid while the treatment takes effect.
Insurance and Cost
There are a lot of variables that go into PRP, so cost is best handled one-on-one. Call us at 678-257-5182 or book an appointment, and we will go through everything with you after your evaluation.
Why Choose Bowdon Family Medicine for PRP
You will be treated in the same independently owned office that has cared for Bowdon families since 2013. There is no referral to a distant specialty clinic, and the provider who treats you already knows your history.
